Rehan Staton, an exceptional 24-year-old, has achieved his Doctor of Law degree from the esteemed Harvard Law School in the United States, after facing several financial challenges during his academic journey. Rehan worked as a waste collector to fund his Bachelor of Arts degree program at the University of Maryland, before being accepted to Harvard Law School.
Rehan’s financial struggles saw him waking up in the early hours of the morning to collect trash before attending class, leaving him no time to shower and often sitting at the back of lecture halls to avoid his classmates. His father and brother also made sacrifices for him to achieve success.
Despite facing numerous rejections from colleges in the United States, he signed up as a sanitation worker and later transferred to the University of Maryland, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in History.
After graduating in 2019, Rehan worked as an analyst at a consulting firm in Washington D.C. He later applied to several law schools, including Harvard Law School, and was accepted by multiple institutions. Eventually, he decided to enroll at Harvard Law School for his Doctor of Law (JD) certification, and secured a fundraiser of over $46,000. According to his LinkedIn profile, he is set to graduate as a Doctor of Law in June 2024.
Reflecting on his experiences, Rehan said, “When I look back at my experiences, I like to think that I made the best of the worst situation. Each tragedy I faced forced me out of my comfort zone, but I was fortunate enough to have a support system to help me thrive in those predicaments.”
